Criteria

The wonderful truth is anyone on Earth (and perhaps even certain sentient off-world life forms) can join SpecFicNZ. We are a completely undiscerning and unbiased association. If you want to support us by joining and giving us your money, we eagerly say, “Yes, please.”

However, there are three criteria we have identified that will make the benefits of your membership more advantageous to you. They are listed below in order of importance. We like lists, in case you haven’t noticed yet.

1). You are a writer, creator, editor, or publisher of Speculative Fiction. If you aren’t any of these, you can still join if you really want to. If you like to read, watch, film, draw, sing, or perform speculative fiction you are certainly welcome to join. If you don’t know what you are, what you like to do, or what you write, we suggest you read our page on what we mean by speculative fiction. And then join.

2. You are originally from or currently live in New Zealand. If you don’t even know where New Zealand is you can still join if you really want to. If you just think New Zealand is cool because you saw it in Lord of The Rings, that’s okay. We’ll still take your money and put it to good use. If you don’t know where you are, we can’t really help with that. But you can still join.

3. You want to be a professional. If you’re perfectly happy being mediocre or even horribly bad at what you do, you can still join. If you hide your writing in a drawer and never want to get paid for it, you can still join. But our preference is that our members strive toward talented, prolific, lucrative careers in the speculative fiction field. Frankly, it just makes us look better. So if that’s what you’re after, you really should join.
